Courses equip students with important life skills

Friendly Business

In partnership with FÁS, National Learning Network in Dundalk offers the Fresh Start, IT by Distance Learning and Employer-based Training courses.

The Fresh Start course provides introductory skills training to people who may have been out of work due to accident, illness, disability or disadvantage. The programme works with participants to build up their confidence and self-esteem and equips them with the skills to cope with their current circumstances and to progress back to work or further education.

The IT by Distance Learning is a flexible course that enables students who cannot access a training centre to gain an information technology qualification from their own home. Students are supplied with home study materials and equipment and are supported by home visits and group meetings. The Employer-based Training programme enables the participants to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to gain and retain employment while partaking in on-thejob training in the business area of their choice.

The NLN Dundalk also offers the HSE-funded rehabilitative training Access programme which equips students with personal, social and work related skills that enable them to progress to greater levels of independence in their communities. Modules include independent living, leisure and creative skills.

Students of NLN, both past and present, and their families and friends were in attendance at the event, along with guests from NLN, FÁS, the HSE, FETAC, ECDL and City and Guilds, as well as local employers and representatives from voluntary and community organisations.
